Miles Teller: 'Divergent' Takes Over JJ Spotlight Series (Part 2)

 

Miles Teller casually leans back as he gazes into the distance for the second part of the Divergent takeover of the Just Jared Spotlight photo series.
The 27-year-old actor takes on the role of Peter in the new book-to-screen adaptation, which will be in theaters everywhere this weekend.
Miles recently shot to fame with his starring roles in The Spectactular Now, That Awkward Moment, 21 & Over, and his Sundance smash hit Whiplash.
In our interview with Miles, he talks to us about working on Divergent, how he will be shooting the sequel Insurgent and the highly anticipated The Fantastic Four remake simultaneously this summer, what it is like to work with Shailene Woodley on multiple films, and even why he wants to be Jared Leto.

Miles Teller Interview – JustJared.com Exclusive

Just Jared: Was last night at the LA premiere the first time you saw the movie or had you seen it before then?
Miles Teller: That was the first time that I saw it, last night.
JJ: What did you think? Are you used to seeing yourself on screen at this point?
MT: Yeah. I mean, if I was Shailene [Woodley]‘s character, it would be more heckling, because she’s in every single frame of the movie pretty much. It was fine. It was cool being a part of a movie of that scale. That was the first time I have been a part of a movie that big. It was fun. Even if you’re in a movie for one scene, you’re still going to over analyze that scene the first time you see it.
JJ: You usually play pretty likeable characters, was it fun playing a jerk?
MT: Yes.
JJ: Was it easy for you?
MT: Yes. I grew up with sisters, I’ve always been kind of picked on, by women. So in this movie, I think, I wanted to make Peter more likeable. In the book, in “Divergent” at least, he’s pretty one dimensional, in terms of he’s always calling Tris a stiff and he’s stabbing somebody in the eye and stuff. It was pretty vicious. Once we embodied him, and found him in a movie, we kind of made him a real person. It was just at the age. These kids in the book are like 16, 17 in the movie, whatever, we’re ya know, teenagers. We kind of made him more of an annoyance to Tris and not pure evil.
JJ: The fight scene between you and Shailene looked brutal. When you do those, do you get beat up at all?
MT: Yeah. I mean, you rehearse it for a couple of weeks, and when you’re rehearsing it, you’re going full speed but at the same time, there’s no cameras on. You’re a little more careful with things. Once it comes time to shoot it, and everyone’s around watching and it’s something you’ve been practicing for a while, you get the adrenaline going, and this and that. That’s what’s hard, having all the adrenaline, and remembering all the technique you learned so that somebody doesn’t get hurt. But yeah, I think it’s inevitable that you’re going to end up getting hit for real, or you’re going to bang a knee, and get some scrapes and stuff. There’s one particular thing, when Shailene punches me in the throat, it’s just a quick little bit, but when we filmed it, she was just so timid with that, with punching somebody in the throat. Which is understandable, so we had to go to the side and do that one hit like 15 times, until she finally got up the nerve to be able to hit me there.
JJ: How was it working with her again? Going from a love interest in The Spectacular Now to an enemy, was it easy to switch gears?
MT: It was pretty funny when I got to set on Divergent, just seeing her do push-ups and fighting, and all of this stuff. My only experience with Shai, work wise, was Spectacular Now. I knew that she climbed trees, went hiking, and was a pretty active person, but she tried calling me Sutter and stuff. I told her to cut that sh-t out, because we’re trying to be enemies.
JJ: Describe your co-stars in one word. Shailene Woodley.
MT: Nature.
JJ: Theo James.
MT: Sexual Predator.
JJ: Zoe Kravitz.
MT: Funky.
JJ: Ansel Elgort.
MT: Ansolo.
JJ: Jai Courtney.
MT: Fosters.
JJ: Tony Goldwyn.
MT: President.
JJ: Has your experience with fans changed at all, since Divergent has such a big fan following?
MT: This is the first time I’ve been a part of something where fans come out in this large of numbers. I feel like I’m in a boy band, there’s a bunch of screaming girls and posters, and signs that say, “Will you marry me?” They want me to sign their arm. I took a thousand selfies. It’s cool, it’s an interesting thing to experience at this point in my life. Yeah, it’s fun. I think it’s cool any time you get a bunch of people that are willing to stand in line for hours and hours just because they love these characters and they love this book. They’re not afraid to wear a shirt that says “Divergent”, and all that. I think it’s pretty cool.
JJ: Who did you get to hang out with most on set? Do you have a favorite off-screen moment?
MT: I pranked Ben Lloyd-Hughes pretty good. That was funny. Veronica Roth came on set one day and she was talking to the cast and everything, and at one point, I just asked her, in front of Ben and Christian [Madsen], “If there was one character you could bring back from the dead, who would it be?” And she was like, “Oh, It would have to be Will. I always liked Will.” And so Ben was feeling pretty good about himself. What I did is I had somebody buy flowers, a balloon, and a card, and put them in his room, his dressing room. I wrote this letter, and it basically said, “Dear Ben, it was such a pleasure meeting you today. Will was always one of my favorite characters. I would love to talk to you more about that character. Give me a call please, any time. Love, Veronica.” Then I put Jai’s phone number, and so we get in the van and Ben has got his card, his balloon, and all this stuff. He’s glowing, he’s literally glowing. He thinks that Will is coming back from the dead. He literally told somebody, “Will is going to come back from the dead and have a spinoff, or some sh-t like The Ghost of Will or something.” He’d be texting Jai and I’d be texting back all this pseudo flirty stuff. Then it got to the point where they were going to have a meet down in the lobby for beer or something, and he called the number and it started ringing in Jai’s pocket. Also, we just started feeling bad because he thought he was coming back from the dead.
JJ: How long did this go on?
MT: For about a week.
JJ: Your character Peter has a bigger role in the next film. Are you excited for that?
MT: Yeah! I’m actually going to be doing Insurgent and Fantastic Four at the same time this summer. It will be kind of a back and forth deal. Yeah, it’s always nice to have a character’s arc get a little more flushed out. I’m looking forward to maybe showing the sweeter, softer side of Peter that people don’t see.
JJ: There’s a lot of hype over The Fantastic Four. What was that audition like?
MT: Yeah, I went in for a test as they call it, and I read with Mike [B. Jordan] and Kate [Mara] and [director Josh] Trank was there. We just kind of put it down in front of the studio and the studio gave it a thumbs up. I showed ‘em my abilities to stretch and shape shift, they were very impressed by that. (LOL)
JJ: Did you audition specifically for Mr. Fantastic or did you audition for another role?
MT: Yeah. Mike had the Human Torch locked up for a while. He didn’t say anything about it, because the movie wasn’t a hundred percent a go and all that stuff. That was really the only part. I could have played The Thing but, then I’m covered in rocks. I don’t want to cover up my face, you know?
JJ: Are you excited to work with Mike again?
MT: Yeah Mike’s great. We’re going to be down in Baton Rouge, for like five months. I think we’re going to have a good time.
JJ: If you weren’t an actor, what would you be doing right now?
MT: Umm… I feel like I would be Jared Leto. I just think we’re kind of kindred spirits, and I feel like, if I weren’t me, the only person that kind of compares to me would be Jared Leto.
JJ: Could you grow your hair out like his?
MT: Uh, yeah. You can’t be Jared Leto without those locks. If I wasn’t Jared Leto, and I wasn’t myself… When I was younger, I had an interest in broadcast journalism, like sportscasting. Sportscasting and cooking. I went to a cooking camp and a film/television summer camp thing when I was younger. I always liked cooking.
JJ: If you were cooking for a girl, what’s your go to meal?
MT: You know, I could mix it up. The other day, I took ground turkey and made tacos out of it. And I thought that was a nice alternative. I can cook a pretty mean steak. I’m versatile.

It served many people for chatting, sending mails and even business. Why a young lady in her age would wish for fast cash is the question many people are asking.
According to reports Axelle met her pimping Boss, Jean Claude on the Internet in October 2011. They had a normal chat like every other person would have when chatting with a stranger. Jean Claude told her he was a Businessman based in Marseille (France) and was into import and export. Axelle who thought she had found the lové of her life continued her communication with Jean Claude Fayard and on March 2012 he came to visit her in Cameroon. There was a huge celebration at Axelle’s Aunt’s Residence at Santa Barbara in Yaounde. Two days in Cameroon, Jean Claude proposed to Axelle and got married to her in both traditional and Legal Ceremonies. Both marriages took place on the 18th and 20th of March 2012 respectively.
Jean Claude made all travelling arrangements and the both of them flew to France on the 21 of March that same year.He even gave Axelle’s family the sum of 600.000 FCFA for their up keep. Not knowing that they were selling their daughter into séx slavery, the family happily bid the couple goodbye as they left for France.
The truth of the matter was that Jean Claude is a pimp who goes to Africa and picks up girls to come and work as séx slaves for him in France. Since Axelle did not know about this, she would wish she never used the internet in her life. As the couple arrived France, they lived in a town called Clermont Ferrand for about 9 months after which they moved to a new place called Lourdes. It is in this place that Axelle had the worst experience of her life.
A few days after their arrival to Lourdes, a man knocked on the door saying he wants to see Jean Claude. Little did Axelle know that, he would be her first client who had already paid into her husband’s bank account. When Axelle called her husband’s attention to the guest, she was shocked when her husband told her to do whatever the guest tells her to do.
A few days later after coming home from work, Jean Claude sits Axelle and laid down the rules and regulations of the job. He told her she has to pay back all the money he spent on her in Cameroon. He calculated the amount to be more than 3,000 euros and she will also be working for him for the next two years. Axelle who became speechless thought she was dreaming. It was  worse when Jean Claude collected her personal belongings and all her documents. She was also prohibited from making any calls to the outside world.
Every day she had male customers who would come for her service taking her from front and behind all the time. She was mandated to do whatever they wanted. They would not use any protection during intercourse. One day Jean Claude came home with a customer accompanied by a dog. The man whose name is Loiseau had deposited some money into Jean Claude’s account. Axelle who didn’t see this coming was pushed into the room and forced to have séx with the dog which she did. It is said that Jean Claude made more money when Axelle sleeps with an animal so these deals became the order of the day.
After her encounter with the dog, Jean Claude left with Mr Loiseau leaving Axelle alone in the house. After numerous trials, she broke down the door and ran into the street where she met a Cameroonian couple living in the town. They helped her to get to the Embassy where she narrated her ordeal. The Police was immediately dispatched to Jean Claude’s house where they found evidence linking him to kidnapping and other serious allegations. Jean Claude was immediately arrested and is waiting for judgement. Meanwhile Axelle flew back to Cameroon and was immediately taken to the hospital for further examinations and treatments.

Popular Nollywood actress — Patience Ozokwor aka Mama G who is set to celebrate her birthday in a day’s time has revealed her real age for the first time ever.
In this exclusive chat with the entertainer, the Enugu-born actress speaks at length about her life as a widow and why she adopted 5 children, why she love to live in the village.

How did you feel when you received the Centenary award?
I feel very elated to have received the award, because it is a sign that Nigerians appreciate my good work. It is indeed a dream come through for me as a thespian, and I promise to always make Nigeria and Africa proud with my work.
How do you feel about all your achievements as an actress?
Stardom has taking me to so many countries in the world. I have been able to meet presidents of different nations. And I appreciate the fact that people commend and appreciate my acting skills whenever they meet me anywhere in Nigeria and outside the country, which gives me a great pleasure and ability to work harder, knowing that I have fans all over the world is worth celebrating.
How has Nollywood helped to transform Nigeria?
Our movies have been able to affect people’s lives as well as make them happy. In fact, Nollywood has transformed Nigeria’s image abroad positively and I am delighted to be part of this achievement.
Has your profession affected your life positively?
I have been able to assist my family financially through my work, my children were able to go to school and they are living a comfortable life with their families as graduates by the special grace of God. In fact, the movie industry has affected my life positively in every ramification and I don’t have any regret being an actress and I give God all the glory.
Have you achieved all that you set out to achieve?
I have not yet achieved everything, personally there are things that I have in mind to do in the industry, but when I look back there is nobody yet qualified to take over the mantle from me. And I pray that God will raise someone that will be better than me, which will be a great achievement to have someone who will replace me, when I finally leave the industry.
Would you support any of your children to go into entertainment?
My second son is already into entertainment, he has a music record label. While my daughter ended up in the church drama. Though, my son acted in few movies before he left for the United Kingdom, hopefully he may do more in acting or movie directing in the future. And I will give him every encouragement if he decides to go into acting professionally, because he is passionate about entertainment.
While growing up did you ever think of becoming a movie star?
I have always been an entertainer from childhood, so getting to the level I have attained in the industry is by the grace of God, consistency and hard work.
Could you share some of the experiences you had in your early days as an actress that almost discouraged you?
During my early days, sometimes when I get to location with a script, they would tell me someone has taken my place, which was so disappointing. But I endured and believed God for mine, and He gave me what belongs to me. Today, God has celebrated me as an icon and I give God all the glory.
Your husband died in 2000, precisely 14 years ago, how is life as a widow?
God has always been on my side because without Him there is nothing we can do. Again, I lived in the village, maybe if I were living in the city, things would be happening to me and nobody will know what I was passing through. And my people in the village know that I am always on location working either in the eastern part of the country or Lagos and Abuja. But when I am not working you will see me in the comfort of my home in the village. I appreciate my people for all their love and peaceful co-existence which I am enjoying. My husband’s
family loves me so much, even before I became a star; we were so attached to each other. Everyone in the family calls me Patia; they are fond of me.
Are you saying you still live in the village?
I don’t live in the city; I still live in my village. It is nice to live in the countryside where everyone is everybody’s business. (Laughter).
Not minding the fact that you are a celebrity?
If you see the way people appreciate me in my village, whenever I go to the market to shop everyone will be calling me ‘Mama G’, ‘Gee’ for general, in fact, you will appreciate me more. But my office is located in Enugu town. So, I enjoy living in the village, my hometown. I still live my life of simplicity regardless of fame.
How do you manage to shuttle from the village to other parts of the country?
I have a guesthouse in Lagos where some of my jobs are concentrated like soaps, endorsements, commercials and shooting of movies. I have a three bedroom flat in Asaba. Because I am tired of staying in public hostels, some are sub-standard; and sometimes you run into small girls that you know. So, I decided to rent an apartment each in Lagos and Asaba for comfort. I have adopted children who I take on holidays, so because I would not like them to grow up in the village without being exposed to city life, when they are on long vocation and I am in Nigeria, I take them to Lagos or Asaba for a change of
environment.
Your son had his wedding in the United Kingdom sometimes ago and your daughter also got married in Nigeria, how many children do you have?
I have three biological children. But because of my love for children, I adopted five other children who bear my name and I am very proud of them as my children. But I intend giving two among them to my younger sister to love as I have been doing. I am grateful to God for their lives, my son in-law and beautiful daughter-in-law I love you all.
Your late husband was supportive of your career, would you say you miss his presence now that you have hit stardom, especially being honoured with the Centenary award?
I wish my husband were alive to witness my Centenary award, because he waschighly supportive of my career. Though, he was sick for a long time before hevdied, I wish he were still alive. But God knows the best. May his soul rest in perfect peace.
What did you really miss about him?
I miss the togetherness, when two people work together trying to train the children, bringing them up in unity and love. And all the affection he showered on us. I miss the way he celebrated my children’s birthdays, he was a true father and husband when he was alive. I miss my husband’s companionship and love.
Have you ever acted any role related with your experience as a widow?
Of course, one or two things that happened to you as a widow will definitely come up in the movies, but I have not acted any widowhood role that has to do with my experience as a widow negatively. My in-laws have been very supportive and caring; we have always lived like one big family. I always visit them in the United Kingdom, United States of America and those in Nigeria are united in love with me. When my husband was hospitalized, my sister-in-law and I were taking care of him; she stayed with him at nights while I took over from her in the morning before going to location. On that fateful day, I was on location when my husband died, before my sister in-law arrived the hospital.
Thereafter, they informed me about his death and they put him in the mortuary and asked me to continue with my job, because they understand my kind of job, but I blatantly refused. I took permission from the producer and stayed away for some days. I later came back to finish the production of the movie.
Tell us about your parents?
My parents were loving and caring, I miss them so much. My mother was a popular trader. I never had it rough as a child, I only had it rough when my husband fell sick, but my in-laws did not leave me, they took care of my husband’s hospital bills. It’s just that you don’t have to wait for people to survive; instead you struggle to make life meaningful for yourself.
You are looking younger and beautiful even at your age, are you thinking about
remarrying?
It is not about my look but my age. I am not thinking about remarrying. Since my husband died, I have been rearing my children to the glory of God. And I decided to occupy my mind on my job and service to God to give my children the best in life.
How old are you now?
I was born on March 25,1958, so do the calculation.
At 56, you are looking elegant. What is the secret behind your healthy look?
God is the secret behind my ageless look, and I also eat what my body needs, I take a lot of fruits and exercise when it’s necessary. And most imperatively, I don’t drink alcohol because I have realized that alcohol does a lot of damage to the body and makes you look older than your age.
Nollywood producers have stereotyped you with roles that make you get bad remarks, how have these roles affected your life?
I don’t owe anybody any apology for the roles I play, because I get paid for them and it is my job. It is only people who don’t understand that acting is make belief that perceive an actor to be living his or her life the way she acts on set. If I could read my script and interpret the role to get the best production, it means I understand acting.
Who is Patience Ozokwor outside the set?
I am a very loving mother, nice, caring, jovial, understanding, and above all God fearing. But I don’t take nonsense because I am a disciplinarian.
You attended teachers training college were you nursing the idea of becoming a teacher?
I attended teachers training college in Afikpo; and then I proceeded to IMT,
Enugu where I studied Fine and Applied Arts, specializing in Graphics. But I am
a not a teacher today, because my interest is in acting where my passion also
lies.

MIKEL OBI and GENEVIEVE NNAJI Sign MEGA DEAL with AMSTEL MALTA  

The lid has now been blown off the leaked photos of Mikel Obi and Genevieve and their upcoming movie project titled, The Journey.
Following the premiere at the AMVCA last night, of a new Amstel Malta TVC featuring both Nigerian superstars, Genevieve has now confirmed she’s been made an ambassador for the low sugar malt drink.
Sources say the deal was sealed earlier this year, with the initial campaign themed around inspirational journey to success stories.
The TVC, which was aired during the star-studded AMVCAs, highlights the individual career journey of both stars, ending at a point of triumph.

No word yet on how much they were paid or how long the deal will last for. Mikel was not present at the awards but Genevieve, who presented an award with OC Ukeje, spoke with Amstel Malta red carpet host Vixen on her own journey to success and how she hopes this project will help young Nigerians make the best of their own journeys.
